Past Expected Frost, A Garden Bonus

This is the first time in about 15 years of gardening in this climate to go two weeks past the usual first frost date.  Yesterday was October 29th and we harvested green beans, tomatoes and summer squash.  Yum!  The brilliant marigolds still have beautiful color though they aren't as good as a couple months ago.

A week later:  Today is 11-6-14,  Still no frost.  I'm so happy to be getting produce 3 weeks longer than normal. I can't believe it and I'm so happy!

November 9th.  Light frost
November 10th.  Heavy frost

  1. Lovely pictures!! Beautiful garden. It is deceptive - because I know there is so much work behind it.

We too were exclaiming today that it is unseasonably warm and still no frost. Hubby's just waiting, because when it does freeze, ALL the leaves will dump on the ground. Kind of puts a damper on the fall, it does. After the freeze, everything is much less beautiful, so we move to the inside!

  2. Your garden still looks wonderful even at this advanced stage. Great that you are still getting fresh produce and those abundant marigolds!! We got a frost yesterday morning, and a brisk wind early this morning. Another long, gorgeous fall this year up till now - so the remaining leaves that are clinging will be in imminent departure mode. We have had only one snow storm so far and no blizzards yet, but wondering what this wind may bring. The trend is heavily on the chilly side and I'm starting to regret it when I don't take a coat, and thankful when I do.
